The history of our style is Tang Soo Do Translated is Way of the China Hand.  It is a primary system of empty hand self-defense dating back about 2,000 years. This style was originally used as a way for common people to protect themselves from roving bands of criminals.  Tang Soo Do roots can be trace back to the three kingdoms in Korean history. Shilla 57 BC-935 AD, Packjae 18 BC-660AD, and koguryo 37 BC-668 AD.  Soo Bahk Kee was the old name for Tang Soo Do.  Tang Soo Do is a combination style of self-defense, 60% Soo Bahk, 30% Northern Chinese (Hard Style) and 10% Southern Chinese (Soft Style).  Tang Soo Do is both a hard and soft style, deriving its hardness in part from Soo Bahk kicking techniques, and its soft flowing movements from the Southern Chinese Tang systems.  Over the years Tang Soo Do has developed into a sophisticated art of combat techniques.  The man who developed the modern style Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan was Grandmaster Hwang Kee.
